In an interesting turn that took place, an Iranian Band has served a legal notice to music director Pritam Chakraborthy and Super cassettes Ltd., alleging copyright infringement. The popular song ‘pyaar ki pungi’ which is on everyone’s tongue these days from the movie Agent Vinod produced by Saif Ali Khan’s in house production house has been put in question by the Popular Iranian band Barobax Corp alleging that some of the initial verses were copied in its original form from their song ‘Soosan Khanoom’ which can be accessed from the YouTube link here.
The movie is all set to release on 23rd of this month and is a much awaited flick of the year. The link to the song in question can be accessed here.
The legal notice states: “We demand the music director, producers and directors to refrain from releasing the song in the movie or use it to promote the movie. Failing to do so, the Band shall be compelled to initiate proceedings to seek a restraining order and necessary compensation,”
The main issue raised is that rights were not taken from the original copyright owners before making use of the lyrics in the movie in question.
Yet another question that remains is considering the fact that Iran is not a member of WTO , can the Band initiate legal proceedings in India??? All we can do is wait and see what is in store.

I remember another post where Pritam and Anu Malik were fighting against each other regarding copyright infringement. That one was hilarious!!!!
Thank you for your comment Amruta. Every other day there is some or the other news about copyright infringement , particularly relating to the Entertainment industry.I strongly feel that the creators of work should start giving due regards to the existing copyrighted works.This would go a long way in preventing subsequent suits for infringement.
