Aurobindo Pharma joins the Medicines patent pool which was launched by UNITAID. In an attempt to make HIV drugs widely accessible to public at a lesser price, the patent pool was launched to facilitate cross licensing of patents related to HIV/AIDS drugs, posted here. Aurobindo is the first major generic company to join the patent pool. This will enable Aurobindo to produce cheaper generic versions of an array of HIV drugs licensed to the pool by Gilead.
