Web operators of Ninja Video are facing criminal charges for gross copyright violations of various movies and television shows. A Federal Grand Jury on Saturday has returned an indictment charging five individuals of
conspiracy and copyright violations. It is alleged that high quality formats of multiple movies and television shows were illegally offered for free download and paid download on the website. While some of these movies are still running in the theatres a few are yet to be released. Ninja Video, a video streaming and downloading website that started in February 2008 is said to have offered loads of infringing contents and was shut down in 2010 by the law enforcement agencies in US. The website is said to have collected more than $500,000 by offering infringing contents.
The hearing is set on 16th September. National Intellectual Property Rights Coordination Center (IPR Center) led by ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations investigated into the violations and framed charges. The IPR Center was created by the US Government in order to strengthen their fight against piracy and IP theft globally. A right holder may report any violations of his rights to the IPR Center. The IPR Center operates in coordination with 19 other government agencies in its fight against global IP theft.
