Rolls-Royce Holdings Plc was reported to have settled a patent dispute with United Technologies Corp.'s Pratt & Whitney unit. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed but it was reported that the parties requested dismissal of two infringement suits filed by the parties against each other. The settlement is also expected to cover the issues that were under review before the US International Trade Commission.
Rolls Royce, the second largest jet engine maker, had brought an action against Pratt & Whitney in relation to an engine fan technology. It was ruled in favour of the defendant who in turn brought another suit against Rolls Royce for misusing the process of law by false patent claims. These pending litigations were deemed to have been delaying the delivery of Boeing Co.'s 787 Dreamliner passenger airplanes. The amicable settlement reached by the companies has put an end to all patent litigations pending between them.
