USPTO rejects twitter’s trademark application.

Inspite of the enormous popularity of the social networking site Twitter, the Unites States Patent and Trademark office has rejected twitter’s trademark application. Reports state that twitter was first published in 2006 and has grown to over 175 million registered, users averaging 95 million tweets a day. The major reason for the denial is the existence of the mark "Let Your Ad Meet Tweets" that is already registered by advertising service Twittad. The USPTO while rejecting the application indicated that Twitter is similar in sound, appearance and connotation to the mark "Let Your Ad Meet Tweets".
