Express Checkout of Victoria’s Secret under Patent Attack

paymentAfter Apple and Paypal, Victoria’s secret has now been sued for infringement of a patent relating to  one-click checkout. The suit was filed by Efficient Online Purchasing and Cordance in the District Court of Delaware. The complainants are alleging that Victoria’s Secret’s online one click express checkout system violates their US Patent granted in 2004 (US Pat No. 6,757,710).

The patent is entitled, ‘Object-based on-line transaction infrastructure’ and relates to an automated communications system that operates to transfer data, metadata and methods from a provider computer to a consumer computer through a communications network. The patent is similar to the Amazon’s ‘one click’ patent and is believed to spur off debates on patentability of such methods.
