A new IPC class for Nanotechnology

A class used by the European Patent Office (IPO) for classifying nanotechnology related patent applications has been added to the International Patent Classification (IPC) system. The new class B82Y enables classification of all nanotechnology technology related inventions into one single class. As per current practices, the nanotechnology patent application would be classified based on the specific technology which the nanotechnology related to.  This would result in nanotechnology related patent applications being spread out over multiple and diverse classes. As per the new class, all nanotechnology related applications will be present in a single class, which is a welcome move.
