Lexmark International, Inc., which deals with a broad range of printing and imaging products, software and solutions, has settled its series of patent litigation with a host of companies. The settlement is concerning with the patent litigation pending in the U.S. International Trade Commission and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. The companies with which Lexmark has reached the settlement are Alpha Image Tech, E-Toner Mart, Inc., Nano Pacific Corporation, Ninestar Image Co. Ltd., Ninestar Image International, Ltd., Ninestar Technology Company, Ltd., Print-Rite Holdings Ltd., Seine Image International Co. Ltd., Union Technology International (M.C.O.) Co. Ltd., and Ziprint Image Corporation. According to the reports, the Settling Parties will not oppose Lexmark’s efforts to secure an order from the International Trade Commission banning future importation of infringing cartridges. The remaining terms of the settlements are confidential.

Seems to me that companies are pushing harder than before to compete with competitors without doing the actual work of inventing new things rather just building on the work of others I think as this trend continues so will the cases of patent litigation increase.
