A 31% jump in patents granted by USPTO in 2010

The US Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) granted approximately 2,20,000 patents in 2010. This figure is a jump of approximately 31% as compared to 2009 and is a record for the number of patents granted in a single year. The previous highest year was 2006 (approximately 1,73,000).

  1. David Kappos seems to be outdoing himself. Obviously, he can take a fair share of the credit for this upswing. By all accounts, the new Director of the US patent office appears to have earned his stellar reputation.
