Infosys to roll out a Social Media Policy

Loss of Confidential Information through social networking sites have created quite a stir in companies like Infosys Technologies Limited.

The recent discovery of few employees of the major Indian IT Giant discussing the confidential information of their respective projects and clients on the unprotected social networking site, “Facebook” has forced Infosys to implement a “Social Media Policy”, which will lay down the “do’s” and “do not’s” for the employees on revealing the project or client engagements or alike on social media.

Talking about the Policy, Senior Vice-President and Global Head, Human Resources (Infosys), Nandita Gurjar said, “The policy would mainly enlist do’s and don’t about revealing projects or client engagements,”.

While the policy is expected to come into existence in Aug 2010, any breach of the policy will make the employee accountable for his/her comments made on social media and to stringent disciplinary actions against him/her including and not limited to termination of employment.

Though such policies have been existing in most of the companies outside India, it will be a unique step taken in order to prevent the loss of Confidential information in India with very few companies in India concentrating on watching their employees and educating them to avoid the leakage of the Confidential Information.
