“Balarampuram sarees and fine cotton fabrics” get GI registration.

Kerala’s famous Balarampuram sarees have recently received protection under the Geographical Indications Act. Balarampuram which is situated in Tiruvanantapuram district of Kerala has been known for ages for its weaving activities. It is said that this activity was started in the 19th century during the reign of Maharaja of Travancore. They have now been granted registration under class 24 and 25 of the GI Act. The registration will now enable the traditional community to protect the name used for their goods.

  1. Kerala sareez were always a fantasy to me. They look so elegant and beautiful. Even I was looking for some sareez and searched many online stores too for this but so far no success.
